Preserved by the Archaeological Survey of India, a national reserve of India, this Dutch cemetery contains 45 Dutch graves. It was very active in the 18th and 19th centuries.
The oldest tomb here is that of Sir Cornelius Jung, who died at Chinsura in 1743. Some famous people like George Vernet, Daniel Overbeck, Gregorius Hercules were buried here.
The mausoleum occupies an area of about 7,400 square meters, and is surrounded by a high brick wall.
The type of architecture seen in the Dutch tombs of South India, the tombs and mausoleums here also follow the same architecture.
There are 24 Dutch tombs in the southern part of this huge site, which are of three types. Some are in the shape of pyramids, some are simple burial chambers, and some are in boxes.
Apart from the Samadhi Kshetra, this place has another form. That is its green tree. The trees here were very old and very tall. Most of these trees are Siris trees.
