Venice is a beautiful city that should be on everyone's list of places to visit. It is in the northeast of Italy and is the capital of the Veneto region. 

Venice in Italy is the only city in the world that is like no other in terms of its past and culture. There are no cars on the streets because it's built on more than one hundred islands. 

Along the city's many canals, people get around in boats, vaporettos, and the famous gondolas. You can still drive or take the train to get here, though.

Venice has been called many things in the past. The name "La Dominante" came about because it was a major sea trade hub. Also, the Byzantine Empire called it "La Serenissima" because it was so peaceful and wealthy there. 

But the names it has today, like City of Canals, City of Bridges, and Sinking City, come from where it is. The city of Venice is in the middle of the Venetian Lagoon, which has more than 170 rivers. The largest is the well-known Canal Grande.
